Bring It!

I have “been a Christian” for most of my life – at least since the age of five, when under the direction of my maternal Grandmother and Grandfather, in their home in Farmingdale, Long Island, I got down on my knees and asked Jesus to forgive my sins. The essential thing that settled was my justification; it did not do a great deal for my systematic theology.

I was raised by and large in a Baptist church; the first I remember being Northport Baptist Church on Long Island, but the one where I really “grew up” being Fredricksted Baptist Church on St. Croix in the US Virgin Islands. Although I have come to view several things from a considerably different perspective, I still highly value that church’s emphasis on respect and reverence for the Bible as God’s inspired Word.

There have been a number of times during my life when I’ve had a major change in how I view certain important matters. As a man who reveres the Bible above all else, I have had a “standard operating procedure” whenever one of my fundamental paradigms of thought have been called into question by new information. Whenever I think that I am coming to new basic conclusions about certain matters, I read through the entire Bible to get a “global view” of how the new idea is or is not supported by scripture.

Here are some past examples of these “sea changes” in my thinking:

In each of these instances, I have “searched the scriptures” to see whether or not my thinking was moving down the right pathway, and I have been well-rewarded with new understandings.

Well, Dear Friend, there is a new sea change of my thinking thinking in progress. Substantially due to the influence of Larken Rose via his books and radio shows, I am in the process of questioning the very existence and validity of human civil government. Rose is presently not a “believer” in Jesus Christ. His self-description is “spiritual anarchist.” However, I have found his teachings to be more true to Jesus’ fundamental precepts – commands like “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” that as Christians we all profess to follow – than most preachers I have heard.

And so I invite you to respond to my diatribes on this blog; in other words, Bring It!. Please, hold my feet to the fire! Bring up the scriptures that I may have overlooked or discounted in what I have to say! Let’s see where my thinking is leading me! I am persuaded that a scripture-informed dialogue among sincere believers in God’s Word is in fact the very tool that God uses to bring us closer to Truth.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17
