Hey, Who’s in charge here anyway?

We say we believe the Bible. We say “Jesus is LORD.” We say a lot of things, but do we really mean them? Do we actually live and think as if they are so?

Just this morning I was reading in the book of Daniel. King Nebuchadnezzar thought he was in charge. Wrong! Three times in Daniel chapter four, these words appear:

“…know that the Most High rules the kingdom of men and gives it to whom he will” – Daniel 4:17

Hmmm… three times? That’s a pretty strong emphasis here. WHO rules? “The Most High.” WHERE and WHAT does He rule? What is “the kingdom of men?” Can you say “human civil government?”

What room does that leave for interpretation? Do human rulers have any “wiggle-room” for “doing it their way?” Could this be what Romans 13:1 means by “the higher authorities?” What a notion, that “every soul” must be in subjection to “The Most High!”

Oh, you aren’t persuaded yet? Stay tuned to this blog for further developments…
